Is Lip Balm actually Good for Your Lips ? Not really, say Dermatologists

'' Have chapped lips and can lip balm make the chapped lips worse ? May be ''say Dermatologists

Dry and Chapped lips can sometime be embarrassing and products like lip balms can provide instant relief but are they actually safe and good for your lips because when the thin layer of Lip balm Moisture evaporates it dehydrates your lips even more says Dr Lea Jacob an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Tulane University

Dr Aguh, Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Johns Hopkins University says any part of the body that is not covered in the winters is going to be affected. He said people get very dry hands in winter as we wear jackets and long shirts but don't cover our hands. Same is the case with our lips, they are no different from our skin. Just like our skin, the lips are made up of three layers of cells. The outer most layer of dead cells mostly known as Stratum Corneum, the epidermis, and the dermis. Stratum Corneum, the upper layer is the thinnest thus prone to most damage. Also lips don't have any oil glands of their own

Jacob said ''Licking your lips or applying balms might sound like a good idea but it can further lead to dehydration as lips don't have oil glands of their own'' also few lip balms carry harsh chemicals which might not be good for certain skin types like people with sensitive skin type
